Goblin Valley State Park Goblin Valley State Park is a very small park located in Central Utah south of Interstate 70 on SR 24. The park is about 15 miles north of Hanksville and essentially in the middle of nowhere. The small spires are informally named goblins. I think they look more like a part of a man's anatomy. The 'goblins' are made of very soft sandstone that is very fragile. Just touching them causes them to crumble. They are more like dried mud than rock. It takes less than a half hour to explore the small region where all the 'goblins' are located. If you are traveling on SR 24, this is a must see park.

Facilities include a 21 site campground, modern rest rooms, hot showers for campers, sanitary disposal station and visitor observation shelter. Reservations are taken from March 15th through October 15th by calling Utah State Parks and Recreation, 322-3770 in the Salt Lake City calling area or toll-free (800) 322-3770, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Individual campsite reservations may be made from three days to 16 weeks in advance of departure date. Visa, MasterCard and personal checks are accepted.

Once I saw a music video on MTV that was filmed there. The video had a caption that stated that the park could only be reached by the air. I just had to laugh because we drove to it in our rent-a-car.

Just 35 miles to the southwest of this park is Capitol Reef National Park.
